What I really appreciate about this album is that the composers never once compromised on authenticity for the movie’s plotline. From dance hits like Sinbad the Sailor to concert numbers like Pichle Saat Dinon Mein, to gorgeous love songs like Tum Ho Toh, Rock On!! is a vibe for every mood. Tapping into India’s super talented and growing rock music audience, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy really went all out on this album. I can bet money on that.Īgain, Rock On!! gave us a musical journey that nobody in Bollywood tread on before.
Who doesn’t remember ta-nana-nanana-na-nanana from the theatre song, Amir-Preity’s love song banter and the irreverance of Koi Kahe? Plus, Dil Chahta Hai is 100% on every roadtrip playlist. From hit, party songs to love ballads, duets, songs capturing the idiosyncracies of youth, the pain of loving and losing, this album has it all. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy created a musical soundtrack that will def go down in history for being one of the catchiest collections of great music. Released at the cusp of the 2000s, Dil Chahta Hai broke all earlier, outdated rules of film and gave the Indian audience something new, something young, something relatable. I think it’s fair to call this album the album of the 21st century. This list was horribly, horribly difficult to make, but we chose some of our favourite music albums by the iconic trio that we are sure will be century-defining music. Creating music that is always fresh, young, the perfect blend of classical and modern, of jazz and contemporary, of Hindustani and rock, of the old and the new, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are one of the greatest music groups of all time.
Consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, this trio has, for almost 30 years now, made our movie-watching experience greater and fuller. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is, for those of you living under a rock (you should be ashamed), an Indian musical trio.
